Good Old Days

Things you don’t see much (or have to put up with) any more.

Fish & Chips wrapped in newspaper

Kids with mittens joined on a piece of string

    Public Baths

    Really thick smog

Taking your own bottle to buy vinegar on draught

Gas street lamps, and the bloke on a bike with a ladder who used to light them every day

    Gas lighting at home

    Double-decker trams in London

    Trolley busses

Blacksmiths (there used to be one in Balls Pond Road, Islington)

    Pie & Mash shops

    Shops that sold cigarettes singly

Players Weights in packets of 5

    Blackjacks

    Spangles

    The wooden floors in Woolworth’s

Lyons Restaurants (including the corner houses)

    Paraffin heaters

Going to get the paraffin can refilled (in our case, at the same shop that sold the vinegar)
